Introduction
In June 2023, along with some friends, Ms Susanty Yaakop established HUFI – a Muslim women’s support group dedicated to empowering desistors, recovery persons and partners of the incarcerated. Ms Susanty has been drug-free for over 13 years.
Despite facing societal stigma post-release, she remained resolute in her pursuit of self-improvement. She has been dedicating herself to assisting ex-offenders by offering them guidance and support through FITRAH since 2019, as well as through many other community programs (e.g. CNB, YRSG, SPS, etc.)
As someone who has fought hard to move on from a dark past, she hopes to inspire ex-offenders not to be hindered by past mistakes to start a new and meaningful life.
Susanty Yaakop was awarded the Yellow Ribbon Beyond Second Chances (Desistor – Pinnacle Award) and HUFI was awarded the Yellow Ribbon Advocate of Second Chances (Community Partner) Award in the Yellow Ribbon Awards & Appreciation Ceremony 2026.
